CARD# HPJ-2015-24: Vintage Happy Birthday

Hello! Sorry. I was supposed to post this right after the one on the center step card, but I just got so sleepy I gave up trying to edit the photos and gave in to a much needed sleep.

It's a sunny Monday and I hope that the good weather carries through the night (even just until I reach the office *fingers crossed). 

Now about the card, I made this for my friend Kim. She was the one who ordered a trishutter card a few months ago for her boyfriend's birthday. She really loved the card and wanted to keep it for herself. So I thought I would make something similar just for her. The papers I used are also from Tim Holtz, but from another paper pad. I just can't remember the name at the moment. I will get back to you on that. It was not the Wallflower one, but is was rather a combination of designs from different paper pads like Wallflower, French Revolution and a couple more. I am thinking it was called Miscellaneous,but as I've said, I am not sure about that.

Alright. The trishutter card base I used on this project was a little different from the usual one I make. This one has a whole section uncut and the middle section was scored at the bottom and the top to allow the card to close. If you have seen my previous works from years ago, there was just this one other card which had the same base. It was the one I made for my brother's girlfriend (now his ex). It looked like this:

The inside panels of the card are really blank. I mean I did not add embellishments aside from a string, a wooden embellishment and a stamped image of a bird. The paper is pretty enough that I wanted to showcase it. I just distressed the edges of the designer paper before adhering them onto the base. Afterwards, I added some texture by stenciling with gesso. 

For the front of the card, I layered a length of lace trimming and die cuts before adding the other embellishments. I affixed a couple of crystals here and there to make it more interesting. The little gems just add a sparkle and a certain liveliness to the card. I can't ever forget Beate Johns for introducing these 'blings' to me while I was trying to learn some card fold techniques from her tutorials a few years back.  

I stamped a sentiment on another die cut and adhered it to the card using foam tape. I also added metal charms.

CARD# HPJ-2015-21: Congratulations!

This card was for someone who worked really hard to finish what she started. Woohoo! Ayen survived military school! Congratulations! 

From the stories we heard from her during those times she was able to visit us, we know how hard it was in there and we are so proud of her for getting through it all with flying colours. 

I didn't have any military-themed paper, but I thought the Graphic 45 Time To Celebrate paper pad was perfect for the occasion. I love how it turned out and I love it more because Ayen loved it. Ugh. Sorry for using the same word over and over.

About the card, I made it simple, but still with a lot of layering and distressing. You know how I love distressed and vintage cards.

This is the inside of the card. I cut two slits to tuck in some small cards from the paper pad.

So that was another card project. I hope to make some more for the July birthday celebrants. I am still working on a wedding gift for a friend (I am half way through). I will post the photos when I complete it. Thank you for stopping by! See you again soon.

CARD# PR-2015-10: Bon Voyage!

Hi there! It has been a long time since my last post. I will really try to write more often after I finish all the things that need to be done. I am still working on an invitation suite and very soon I will be working on the decorations of a wedding reception for another friend. Gah. I will be busier in the coming weeks.

Anyway, here is a card I made earlier. I haven’t gotten any sleep yet before going to work tonight, but I needed to write about it. If not, I would pretty much not do anything about it for a week or so. It is better to post it now while my mind is at it.

This project is a going away card for one of the Italian visiting professors in my university. I haven’t met her personally, but my friend and housemate asked me to make a card for her since she will be returning to Italy soon.

It is actually a great timing because I recently bought a Graphic 45 Come Away With Me 8x8 paper pad which was perfect for the theme. It was such a great thing that there was a part of one of the pages that has Italia on it. I made it as the focal point of the front of the card.

I cut a strip of the designer paper and adhered lace trimmings over and under it. I added the 'Italia' card with foam tape afterwards. To make it more interesting, I placed metal charms and crystals. By the way, I hand-sewed the edges of the background paper before distressing and inking it.

I made a pocket inside the card to hold small tags for the messages. I just stamped some images on all of them and inked the edges with the same color as the one I used on the outside of the card. I snipped another image from the paper pad to decorate the pocket.

And that was that. I didn't really time it, but I believe I made the card in under 2 hours. Woohoo! I don't know. It didn't take me long to decide on how to do it. I just knew right off the bat. Haha. Perhaps my system just missed creating things. I haven't showed it to Tengki yet, but I hope she likes it and of course I so hope that the recipient would love it. 

If I finish the invitations this week (I really must) , I will post the photos and let's hear what you think about them.
