ABOUT ME

Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am Jenna to my friends and most of my acquaintances and Kristalene or Einne to my family and relatives. The nicknames could go on some more, but I opt not to mention them here. I was born in Tabuk City and I am currently staying at an apartment we call Alicia in what I think is a friendly neighborhood in Quezon Citywith four awesome girls (one of them is my sister). The people around always have shouting matches but they do not physically harm one another.

It is almost a year now since I left my job as a Facilities Coordinator (last March). I haven’t looked for a new one yet, but I will soon. I wanted to have that very much needed break, but only for 2 to 3 months or 4 months at most. I intended to look for another post, but it just didn't happen. So, I became a bum and stayed at home for several months. I don’t know how I did it, but my sister and I, as well as her cat, survived and we still are surviving until now without the steady income from a full time job. Thank God for that!

I also need to mention that I am attending graduate school (MA in Spanish if you’re interested to know). Unfortunately (or should I say FORTUNATELY), I did not get to enroll last semester since the only course that I needed was not offered. So, I have more time in my hands to start making my wishful thoughts into reality. I have long since been addicted to card making and I have dreamt of someday spending most of my time doing just this. The time must have come for I have a few months to try things out and to dabble into the world of card making without thinking of work and school for a little while.

I have been making cards for as long as I can remember. I recall starting out with folded bond paper or glossy paper at school and adhering cutouts of hearts, trees and what not depending on the occasion and branching out to more complex techniques and materials. I love making them and giving them to friends and loved ones. This has become a tradition for me and people actually look forward to the next card I will be giving them. I always hear them say I can open up a business and sell them. This remark makes me glad because it shows how they appreciate me and the things I do. I told them every time that I will someday. I need to prepare for it and hone my skills more.

I can say I have improved over the years through practice and applying ideas from great artists all over the world. From the simple side fold or top fold cards using ordinary school bond paper and the like, I came to discover a wider array of materials and techniques I could employ in my card making. One artist said, “It is never boring. There is always something new to try.”

As the word hodgepodge is said to be a motley assortment of things, I consider myself a versatile card maker. I say I cannot be put in a single box and be labelled as just one genre. Most often I can be seen creating cards with a shabby or vintage twist [I love distressed looks and old world charm], but I also do bright colourful ones...or whatever flight of fancy has taken me. That was how I came up with the name of mytumblog and eventually used it for my little venture (I have changed it to papierush at the start of the new year). Aside from I love the sound of it; it is the quintessential word to describe me and my creations (in a positive way).

*UPDATED FROM LAST YEAR'S POST.

**UPDATED ON 18 MARCH 2015 TO ADD: This blog is mostly about my creations, craft inspirations and future projects. When I started blogging in 2011 (I called it Hodge Podge with twines and buttons for the URL), I not only talked about my cards and DIY projects, but I also wrote about my thoughts and daily experiences along with occasional recipes that I've tried and some other random personal stuff. I actually deleted that account and I haven't written much about my personal life over the years which is not connected to crafting. Now I have decided to start over and make a blog that tackles things outside crafting. This is also my way of getting back into journaling. If you could check my personal blog, I would really appreciate it. I call it Ramblings of A Drama Addict. So hop on over! You can find it here.
