CANVAS# HPJ-2016-02: Old Time
Hi there! I finally finished this canvas. I made the base ages ago, but I just couldn't finish it. I stored it away and I just brought it out this morning to work on it again.
Here is how it turned out.
Anyway, let's go back to the canvas. Remember the 12"x12" paper pad I bought from Wellmanson's a few months ago? The papers were so pretty I squeed while leafing through the pages. They are all so awesome. Most of them I thought I could use on a canvas especially the one that I used on this particular project. Upon seeing the page, I immediately thought of making a mixed media canvas with our photo from our Taal Village trip. With that in mind, I began the project.
I started by coating the edges of the canvas with black acrylic paint. After drying, I adhered the patterned paper onto the canvas using soft gel. At first I thought I ruined it because there were bubbles all over the canvas. I wanted to pull out the paper, but controlled myself (which was a feat since I was so annoyed buy it). I just put it aside while trying to get some breather. I got frustrated over it obviously. When I got back from doing some other things to see what I could do to salvage it, I was surprised to find it dry and smooth. The lumps were gone. It was as if those lumps never existed. I told myself that I will just stick to Elmer's glue with a part of water, but I guess soft gel works fine as well. It just needs time to dry.
It was the first time that I used it to adhere a large piece of paper onto a canvas. I have seen videos of Elena Morgun using soft gel medium in adhering paper and embellishments on her projects, but I have not tried it before this. I still prefer using a mixture of white glue and water though and my new favorite for adhering embellishments and boards, Aleene's Turbo Tacky Glue.
This is nothing new. This happens every once in a while then I would pick it up and work on it again. And a lot of time, the finished project is so different from what I pictured it should be.
So this morning, I tasked myself to complete it no matter what.
I adhered the photo onto the matte. Well, I smudged gesso around its edges first before doing so. I then put in the wooden embellishments and the metal charms and the paper flowers. I splattered ink onto the surface and gessoed the embellishments. I added some more metal elements and some beads and adhered the sentiment. I put in some crystals as a finishing touch. That's that. Project complete! Great! I can now move on to my art journal. I still owe you a couple of pages.
I hope you come back later and check out my art journal pages. Thanks for stopping by today! Happy Monday!

CARD# HPJ-2016-23: Bon Voyage 2
Hi! I'm going to share a project that I made last week. It is actually a wallet fold mini, but I made it into a card. Well, a holder of tags for the messages. I made two of these before. I learned how to make it from Ginny Nemchak. It is easy and fun to make. It works great for a travel theme. If you want to know how it is done, you can check out Ginny's guide on Snapguide here.
I used a gift wrapper for the base. It is one of those wrapping papers that I hoarded from Papemelroti 2 or so years ago. I think I'll get some more of the same design if they still have some stock left. I hope they still have them.
For the front of the card, I stamped some images in the background before stenciling with light molding paste. After the paste dried, I applied distress ink on the surface. I stamped a balloon image on a separate patterned paper and fussy cut it. I adhered chipboard at the back before affixing it onto the card. I then added the sentiment which I first stamped on a piece of patterned paper. I distressed and inked the edges. I put in the metal charms last to add more interest to the card.
I stamped some more on the pockets.
I ran a die through my Cuttlebug and made several tags. These tags would hold the message for the recipient.
I did not put inserts on the sides since Dino asked me not to. He only wanted to fill in the inside pockets.
So that was that. Another fun project done! I hope you liked it. Thanks for looking today! Have a great week!

The mini measures 3" x 4 1/2". It is really small which makes it even cuter. Heh.

MINI ALBUM: Live Laugh Love
Hello! How are you doing? It has been raining daily since last week and I was just so lazy over the weekend that I did not want to move. I can't remember if I've mentioned about a mini that I was working on for Ria, one of our colleagues who came back from Maternity Leave. I think I did.
Anyway, I should have given this to her last month during our small welcome back surprise for her, but I wasn't finished with the album yet.
Here it is.
Let's start with the cover. Like what I usually do with mini album covers, I used chipboard and reinforced the folded parts with double sided adhesive tape and tissuestock coated with Mod Podge. After drying, I adhered the designer papers. I decorated it after all the pages were in place.
I used minimal embellishments on the front of the cover. I adhered a length of lace trimmings on the part where one designer paper joined another. I stenciled a brocade at the middle of the cover with light molding paste. The light molding paste is perfect. It added dimension to the project and at the same time some texture. (If I prefer molding paste on my cards and art journal, I love using light molding paste on minis.) I then affixed a wooden embellishment and added the sticker and paper flowers. I glazed the wood veneer and flowers with metallic acrylic paint. I also put in the sentiment 'Live, Laugh, Love' and stamped on the background. And of course I made the closure using the technique I learned from Cathy McGrath.
Now for the pages... I cut eight 8" x 8" board papers and adhered eight designer papers. I stenciled with light molding paste on each one which would serve as the background for the photos. After drying, I went crazy with my stamps and ink pads. I stamped here and there. Then I made the hinge. I adhered it onto the spine of the cover and decorated the inner cover. I made pockets for the tags and additional photos. Afterwards, I adhered the pages onto the hinge one after the other.
The mini is easy to make but it takes a lot of time to complete with all the coating and stenciling and drying. I'm pretty sure I'll be making another one in the next few weeks or so. People's birthdays are coming up (and so is mine!).
I hope you liked it. Thank you for looking today! Have a great week!

CARD# HPJ-2016-22: Chie
Hi! It is raining so hard outside and I'm afraid the power will be out soon. I'm here to finally share to you what I came up with for Chie's birthday. You might find it weird, but she actually asked for a card inside a coffin box. Apparently, she loves skulls and coffins and her favorite anime is Yamato Nadeshiko (The Wallflower). It's just sad that I did not get to make it the way she wanted it--with all the blood spilling on the lid of the coffin and a skull on the card. We tried looking for skulls and skeletons, but they are not yet being sold. Perhaps we will find them in stores in a few weeks since the Halloween is coming.
I made this a few weeks ago, but I just could not give it to her. It felt that it was still lacking something (aside from the skeleton). We had to give it to her. It's way past her birthday. Even if it did not feel complete, I handed it to her yesterday morning. She loved it. Even her teammates loved it. I'm glad she loves it! I wanted to make her happy. I think it succeeded because she was in such a good mood afterwards that she forgot about not being able to go with us for breakfast. She was feeling bad since their team building activity coincided with our small get together at John's house (a soup party with videoke!) She missed our gathering. Heh.
Anyway, here is what I came up with.
I put some chocolates in the box to go with the cards. I just love it because the wrapper of the chocolates is red. It fits the inside of the box perfectly!
This is the very first time that I made something like this-making a box totally from scratch and building it into something dimensional. Our boss saw it when I brought it to work and asked me to make her a Mickey Mouse one. Gah. That's a challenge. It's not that I cannot make it possible, but it would definitely be more of a challenge since the box would be rounded. It is easier to assemble something with straight edges. She is already looking forward to it. What a pressure! I'll somehow make it happen. I'll make her a Mickey Mouse jar for the mean time until I am finished with the box. Heh.
That was that. I hope you liked this project. I'll keep you posted on that Mickey Mouse box. I hope you check my other projects. Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!

She was feeling bad since their team building activity coincided with our small get together at John's house (a soup party with videoke!) She missed our gathering. Heh.
Anyway, here is what I came up with.
The only skull embellishment I have is a tiny metal charm from one of my divi trips a year or so ago. It's so small that it would be out of place if I placed it on the lid of the box. Then I thought of my brocade stencil. Why not stencil a part of it as a background for the skull. It would not make the charm that small anymore and it would also add dimension. And so that was what I did. I stenciled with molding paste and inked the surface after drying. It was still missing something though. I rummaged through my metal charm stash and found the little wings. I adhered them onto the bottom part of the stenciled image and there goes the lid.
I added some more metal charms on the bottom of the box.
At first, the box didn't close like this. I actually made the lid slightly bigger than the bottom to fit the box, but the inside of the lid keeps sticking. It was hard to remove.
I thought of just making the lid same size as the bottom, but I'll be putting another set of illustration board on the inside of the box whose top part showing should fit the depth of the lid. I set out to work on it and it totally worked. Now it is easier to close and open the box. It still sticks at times because of the paint, but it is no longer that difficult to pry it open.
After making the base using illustration board and Turbo Tacky Glue (I must say I love the glue! It's now one of my favorite adhesives for my projects. It maybe a little pricey, but it's such a great product. It's strong and it dries fast!), I covered the seams with tissuestock and Mod Podge. I painted the edges with black acrylic paint after it dried.
I then cut the red board paper into the desired sizes and shapes, inked the edges and adhered them on the inside of the box. I did the same with the designer paper on the outside of the box.
I could not make the original card with the skull so I cut several cardstocks for the messages. Chie wanted red and black. I used black board paper with white pigment ink pen for the message and then white board paper with red gel pen for the message. I originally thought of embossing an image onto the cardstocks, but it failed miserably. I don't know what happened with my embossing ink pad, but it is no longer working as it should be. The ink dries so quickly before I can even put the embossing powder. Hmf. The first and last one that I made looked smudged, but I didn't want to waste the paper so I still included it in the box. I used the normal archival ink pad on the rest.
I put some chocolates in the box to go with the cards. I just love it because the wrapper of the chocolates is red. It fits the inside of the box perfectly!
